I was noticing how much interest is coming back into the old and

Now it all depends on what you are willing to pay for your antique lantern. They range in price from $12-$90 for most regular lanterns. Once you find Victorian, or the ones made in England, or furthermore those for the old railroads seem to be the most expensive.

Most antique dealers will tell you to keep the original rust, dirt and grime in place to not disturb the "authenticity" of said object. As for curb appeal, there's nothing wrong with refurbishing a $12 lantern just the way you like it. Now some people go the extra mile, and recreate old lanterns into something superb.

Collecting lanterns can be a fun hobby of yesteryear. Find them in attics, basements, old garages, flea markets, and thrift stores. Not to mention they are great when camping!
