Rusticagift.com shows how these articles are made in ancient traditions.

According to the website, selling the wares, the pottery dates back to the 12th century Moors via the monks of La Reyna de la Talavera, Spain thereby taking it's name.  The work today is Mexican Talavera, rich in old world techniques and the pottery is hand crafted which means no two exactly alike.

Today's featured shop is Studio Vintage, found on Etsy. This shop is from Canada and offers the best curiosities, antiques and collectibles. From french farmhouse to shabby cottage chic, you never know what you may find. Shipping most items to the USA is not an issue, shipping is affordable and fair. Here are some of our favorite finds.  Above, a washboard would make a great addition to the wall, in the washroom or foyer.

Oh my how we adore the vintage apron above in purple paisley. A cute fun frolicking item and aprons like these in original form and in good shape are becoming harder and harder to find. Most of us must settle for reproductions but this is in the original form and worth every penny! For the hostess with the mostess or fabulous entertainer, nab this baby before it's gone.

Studio Vintage has this green depression glass on sale!

One of the best things about shopping for vintage is you never know what may possess you for starting a collection. At one time green depression glassware was untouchable in price. Being that it's more affordable now, it is a worthy item to start collecting. Not only does it look fabulous in a china cabinet or hutch, but may be something fun for treasure hunting or thrifting. The divided dish above would function well in an office or boudoir to hold your pins, rings, necklaces, and things.

Unique to this Etsy shop is the fact the curator/owner "S." notices the small things, like door plates, rusty hinges, and knobs or adornments that may be otherwise overlooked or forgotten. You will find a plethora of these notions in her shop.  She says, "Nothing beats the rush when from across the room, I spy, an amazing find and have to maneuver quickly to scoop it up! Returning to the Studio after a morning's haul is a magical time. It is then, that I get to lovingly inspect each piece, marvelling at the uniqueness, craftsmanship, and design - wondering what stories this time honoured piece may hold. As I photograph these beautiful pieces for listing, I wonder who might stumble across them, celebrate their beauty as I do and give them a new home."

Shabby Hinge @ Studio Vintage is great for many uses including folk art and functionality of a shabby towel drying rack! 

 Above, the hinge was spotted on a sale at $8.64, but even for regular price of $11.95 this unique item with scalloped edging can be used for many things.  You can use the hinge in craft making or simply mount in your kitchen for a towel drying rack. We love it shabby and left alone, but you could paint to match your decor. We've also seen a piece of wood adorned with these type hinges, made into a folk art Christmas tree. (see below)

Brass Knobs at Studio Vintage

This lovely antique Victorian hinge shows it's years of paint aka character. 

Collect several styles and varieties to make something wonderful.  Perhaps adorning a towel rack, making a wooden birdhouse, or something like the below will give you motivation to see the beauty in every little thing like StudioVintage does.

Make your own folk art with hinges and adornments. This little tree could be possible with placing different hinges back to back!

Sterling Silver Vintage Goodies at 2goodponiesvintage

2goodponiesvintage on Etsy is our featured shop today. There are all kinds of great items to be had.  Today we're highlighting sterling silver trinket and flatware. Above we have a Rolex family spoon - yes made in Sterling Silver, and a demitasse spoon.  This has the Rolex Crown logo above the Bucherer Watches, Lucerne stamp.

George W. Shiebler Sterling Silver Fork and Spoon, Tiffany Silver, Kings Pattern $199

Some sterling silver is hard to find, like the above Kinds pattern fork and knife originally sold by Tiffany & Co, dating back 1876-1910. Hallmarked and lovely, made by George W. Sheibler of New York.  The shop is curated by Karyn and Jay in Johnson City, Tennessee (who started her collecting bug when she went to her first swap meet in grade school.)

Vintage Sterling Silver Baby Rattle Teething Ring $79 

Ironically you don't see many sterling teething rings or baby rattles, the one above is from 1939 and attached to a Mother of Pearl teething ring. Certainly for the rich and famous, quite lovely after all these years.    Although most of the above items are sterling silver, the item below is actually pewter, although made by the Stieff company - this is a Kirk Stieff Pewter Bracelet, unique at best.

Many people think collecting old glassware means you have to match everything completely together, but this is not so. Adding vintage glassware to compliment some of your current designs or antiques, even if they don't match perfectly is quite okay.

These wonderful creations we found at YellowBeeVintage on Etsy. The prices are great and even with shipping and handling, the final cost keeps you coming back. So for those who turn up their nose at mix and match glassware, we only have one question, you wouldn't do it for china and ceramics would you?

Forgotten Commodities Vintage Kitchen Wares Galore

We have found this great Etsy shop called Forgotten Commodities which features a large selection of vintage kitchen wares. We had a chance to talk to the owner, Tiffany all the way from Elkhart, Indiana and found out what makes inspires her!

Q :  Why and when did you start selling vintage?

A: I opened my shop in June 2014. I have a love and appreciation of all things vintage, with a specific interest in housewares and décor. I began collecting vintage items over the last decade and realized that I had so much of it in my home that I needed to spread the love to make room for more. Instead of simply donating to the local thrift store, I decided that I could turn my hobby into a money making opportunity. So now I can still enjoy "picking" to my hearts content, and share it with the world via my Etsy shop.

Q: What your favorite vintage items are or what you collect?

 A: I absolutely love vintage items that can store something inside. Be it crates, canisters, tins, or cases. There's something about the dual purpose of an item that appeals to me. First that it's decorative and appealing to the eyes, and also that it's practical and has a real purpose. Let's face it, we all need the extra storage. What better way to get it than to put your home décor to work?

These glasses are $19.95 and from 60's-70's era. Would match lots of 70's era gold and browns decor in your vintage kitchen!

Q: Anything currently in your shop with a great story?


A: In my shop there is a set of drinking glasses. I was out with a friend yard sale-ing and we happened upon a sale that didn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. There really wasn't much to see and I just about turned around to leave when in my peripheral vision I saw a box under a table, as if it had been stored away and wasn't for sale. I figured I'd check anyway. The lady running the sale said she wasn't going to set it out for sale because she didn't think anyone would be interested, but she offered to let me take a look. The box was old and beat up, torn in a couple places even. But inside was a complete and immaculate set vintage glasses that I instantly fell in love with. So I made them mine! It was hard to come to the decision to sell them, but alas they are for sale.

Q: What item will you hate to see go and why? 

A: Of all the lovelies for sale in my shop I do have a few contenders for the hardest thing to let go of. But I'd have to say the set of three antique tin cookware is at the top. They couldn't be use for cooking now, but would be amazing on a wall! It's vintage, rustic, well aged and has a nice patina...need I say more?

Black Iron Rooster, $10.95 would make a nice kitchen door stop.

Q: Anything else you want folks to know? 

A:  I'd invite all true vintage lovers to visit my shop and share in my hobby!

When did you start collecting and why ? 

I started collecting My Little Ponies when I was 3. I learned from my mother and she is the collection queen! Even after moving all over the world, she still managed to collect loads of stuff. As she is the queen, I am the princess and love to hit the local flea markets on Sunday morning. It is the only time you will find me up early.

Vintage clothing can be found in this shop, too! This "Peacock" suit is simply stunning!

What your favorite vintage items are or what you collect?

I still collect My Little Ponies and have a room full of them. I also restore, transform and sculpt MLP. I collect other things too, like my 1960's dentist chair and medical exam light. I tend to like mid-century kitsch.


Anything currently in your shop with a great story?

Recently I did sell a brass chalice to the property manger for Kevin Bacon's "The Following". It has been exciting watching for it appear on the show!

Collecting Vintage Coffee Pots

Vintage Coffee Pot , West Bend, $350 at Light and Time Art on Etsy

Do you know anyone who actually collects vintage coffee pots? This would be a huge and vast choice for a collector comprising of glass pots, french press coffee pots, aluminum canister pots, commercial pots, plastic pots and home brewing pots.   What about enamel coffee pots?  As you can tell it would be too numerous to fathom and certainly the collector would want to tailor it down to what appeals to them.  Above, a rare Kodak 1970's pot looks, at first glance, like a giant roll of Kodak film. Great for the advertising collector. Although many people thought these pots were only used commercially, we had one in our household growing up. (We had a big family, and loved the coffee.)  You can buy it at Light and Time Art, for $350.

French Vintage Shop offers this coffee pot for $127.10

If I was collecting coffee pots I must admit, I'd have to go for the gorgeous, like the above French enamelware coffee pot. Obviously from the early 1900's this was lovingly used and imagine how lovely the coffee would look being poured out of this back in the day. The issue of course is with the enamelware over time the items would chip, and possibly rust, so finding them in good displayable condition is hard and rare. The above item retails for $127.10 and that's not a bad price considering how lovely this item is to display.  Of course you can't use them , as they are deemed unsafe, but who would want to? This would be a rare gem in the coffee pot collection.

Mid Century Modern Coffee Pot $25 from Circe Collectables

Overlooked and under-collected surely would be the ceramic coffee pots. Many dinnerware manufacturers not only made ceramic coffee pots as specialty additions to their lines, but occasionally you will find whole ceramic sets made with the pot and cups. It's hard to tell if they were originally meant for tea, sake , or coffee but who cares when they are this cool they are a must have addition to the collection.

A big push in the 1960's had many mid century modern manufacturers, novelty companies and the like jumping on the bandwagon selling coffee service sets, and a whole slew came out of Japan for decorative purposes. If you look hard enough you can find real gems to add to your collection, like the one above for only $25 featuring a great Mid Century Modern Design from Circe Collectables on Etsy.

Etsy shop HappyKristen offers this funky Regal coffee pot only $25

Let's not forget plastic!   Plastic fantastic is a whole other wing for collectors, and great finds can be had like this retro coffee pot (11 cup)  available at Happy Kristen on Etsy for $25.  Plastic will be the hardest to find, because over time they've been dropped, cracked or burnt. This is a rare gem!

Aluminum coffee pots, although the most common can sometimes still be found unused , in the box, and would be a rare collection addition.  This is only $12 at LucyBettyNJune Shop on Etsy.
