Vintage Massey-Ferguson Diesel Tractor & Michael Palmer

Imagine the shock and surprise of finding this gem of a tractor sitting on the side of the road.  Cindy Schafer, taking pictures of Michael Palmer,  Country / Bluegrass music artist who also goes by "3rd Gear" jumped out of the car and started snapping.

Massey Ferguson dates back to 1847 by Hart Massey / Michael Palmer Country Artist

"That day it was hotter than hell, and we had been in the barns and around the midway at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds  trying to find the perfect shots for Michael's website, when I passed a pile of junk on the side of the road, literally. Then I saw the tractor. I was like 'get out, now!"   He says, "Are you serious?" I was like "Hell yeah, the tractor is perfect!"

She explains the whole shoot took at the tractor's location took only five minutes, but enough to turn out some pretty good photos with her IPhone5.  She says, "Massey-Ferguson tractors never die, neither does good music so I thought it a good match.  Michael is a regional musician playing bars, fairs and festivals near Martinsburg, WV but also into Virginia and Maryland.  Something about the tractor just felt right."

Probably 1973 or Prior Vintage Tractor

They never did find out the year of the tractor, but it's definitely 1973 or prior. "As old as dirt like me," jokes Schafer.   Palmer lives in Martinsburg, WV with his wife and three kids and can be hired for local events, fairs, festivals, or parties. He plays a Yamaha 6 string.

Vintage Lantern on Etsy
Dietz Red Lantern available at PrairieAntiques on Etsy, only $16.50 makes it bargain of the day.
I was noticing how much interest is coming back into the old and Antique Lanterns. Thanks to the helpful article on the Antiques and Collectibles HQ, it is apparent that these items are not just decorative, but useful. In case you don't know, this site http://antiquesandcollectibleshq.com is a newer source of information on antiques and collectibles They are adding new posts all the time and are a wealth of information on some topics already.  They indicate that antique lanterns come in all shapes, sizes, and are truly functional!

Now here's something neat. Antique Lantern $38 at RiverHouseDesigns on Etsy.
Now it all depends on what you are willing to pay for your antique lantern. They range in price from $12-$90 for most regular lanterns. Once you find Victorian, or the ones made in England, or furthermore those for the old railroads seem to be the most expensive.

PickersAttic on Etsy offers this authentic railroad lantern for $125

Most antique dealers will tell you to keep the original rust, dirt and grime in place to not disturb the "authenticity" of said object. As for curb appeal, there's nothing wrong with refurbishing a $12 lantern just the way you like it. Now some people go the extra mile, and recreate old lanterns into something superb.

LynxCreekDesigns on Etsy has found a way to make something functional out of this lantern. $39.99 in her shop.
Collecting lanterns can be a fun hobby of yesteryear. Find them in attics, basements, old garages, flea markets, and thrift stores. Not to mention they are great when camping!
