Do you collect old planters or vases?  Etsy shop Archival has a huge offering of mid century plant stands and vases. The "Regency" style above was made out of cast metals. I used to see these all the time back in the 70's as a kind...but now finding them is getting much harder.

Metal Mid Century Modern Plant Stand 

Look at this great mid century modern plant stand, above.  I assume many of the all metal ones were on people's sunporches or porches, and over time instead of being refurbished were thrown out. Now with their "rustic" look they look great in a foyer holding fresh or faux flowers. I would think also, you could repaint if you so choose, but I sort of like the vintage look.  Shipping will be fair, as it's a light item, and who would have thought it would look so great with wicker?

These wicker plant stands look fabulous in original condition. I have to admit, I used to turn down rattan thinking that it would collect dust. Not so, it's easy to dust and not to mention you can paint it.  If you like that whole "shabby vintage look" I've discovered a great trick  painting with milk paints. I've used Annie Sloan but others work well too. One quick swoop covers the item in most places and gives it a flat vintage look.  Now you can take a second look at wicker, and see that wood, wicker, or bamboo plant stands, planters, baskets or vases may be the way to go.

Etsy shop Odd Geology from South Carolina has some great mid century modern earthenware and pottery finds. Items you don't see that often but would make a must have addition to your retro kitchen or living room area. Here are some highlights from their ever-changing shop! Ben Seibel cups, only $14 at Odd Geology!

Ben Seibel, a great designer did these lovely cups which are signed. I love his modern designs and assembling a full set of his china would be functional and fun to do!  There is a great site all about Ben Seibel design here!

Odd Geology offers this little Jackson China Cream pitcher $8

Cream pitchers from Jackson China are both cute and functional. This company produced china in Pennsylvania and shipped their pottery all over the nation, unfortunately ceasing operations in 1985 after a long line of management issues and a fire!

Then enter the mod colors of the 60's. This drip glaze painted coffee mug was made in Brazil.  I just adore the colors and this would look great in any retro modern kitchen!

Kast Concrete Decor Mid Century Modern Industrial Design

Knobs like these are available on Etsy, or on the KastConcrete.com direct site. All are modern styled and made of recycled concrete.

Mid Century Modern Vintage Inspired 

I am uncertain just how and when Grey Hensey, a designer from Alabama decided to use recycled concrete to make the most ornate and intricate items. Truly when one thinks of concrete, we don't think of dainty little knobs and drawer pulls. Now figure that Grey has found a way to take old concrete and make it into a functional yet mid century modern looking FUNCTIONAL item that you could attach to your desk, kitchen drawer, or assemblage art and this is certainly ingenious. He's already been getting a lot of press about these items.

KastConcreteDecor on Etsy offers this little knob for only $8 handcrafted from Concrete.

Perhaps the why is written right on Grey's website. He says his company is committed to modernizing timeless design in his handcrafted concrete production. So it is that he is highly design influenced by all things modern and vintage styled.  Knobs aren't all he has, and he says that "more goods will be available soon."  Grey he has birds he's cast that you can paint, or display as is. One of my faves are these little industrial looking Magnets (below.)

Look for good things to come from this guy. He's going places.

Krrb for Vintage, Secondhand and Handmade Grassroots Shopping

Buying Vintage and Secondhand on Krrb

Move over Craigslist, and hello Etsy lovers---this is for you. I am not sure if you've heard of Krrb.com, a hyperlocal grassroots type classifieds for the entire world!  Krrb is primarily for vintage, secondhand, handmade and small batch food producers, however you can offer just about anything as long as it is not mass produced.

If you haven't heard of Krrb yet, don't worry, you will. Currently they are super popular in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Paris France. However they are available in over 800 cities in the world.

Krrb is friendly, welcoming, and promotes goodwill and recycling-I think they are eco friendly if you ask me.

You can add a location and see what's for sale. So let's say you work in Pennsylvania (like I do), you can search that area (by zip, city, state, etc.) and then also have a home search too.  Just today I checked out some items close to my home, (Baltimore) here's a brief look of what I got:

As you know I'm dying with all this cool retro antiques and mid century modern items. The prices are fab and it's easy to shop local and support your neighbor!   Now when I say you can't have mass produced as with anything, there is a loophole, let's say you have something that was mass produced but is used. This technically may fall under second hand, but the idea is not to have the site swamped with Made-In-China dollar store junk. So there is a great feel to this site and I love it.

I am finding the coolest stuff on Krrb. I so love this pink bike but items like this don't last long.

Since I just love Apartment Therapy this is great news for buyers and sellers.  I know that Krrb is definitely a site dedicated to people who are serious about home and furniture.

Signing up is easy, and free I just linked in my Facebook account. Heck, I figure if I sell something why not have it connected up to my Facebook for all my friends and family to see?   You can also link your twitter for maximum exposure.  Now you can just log in the regular way, but I wanted to earn some credits.

Selling is easy, the transactions are between you and your buyer, Krrb doesn't take any credit. However, there are credits used for listing an item to their classifieds. The easiest way to think of this is one credit = one listing. You earn credits for updating your profile, adding a photo, or for some other activity done on the site.  If you run out of credits you can buy them, but you may not have to if you earn them.  I just linked in my Facebook and I have 13 credits already, so I'm off to list some of my junk. Just remember, my trash is someone else's treasure.

Truth be told Vince Bravo isn't all about Wakefield there's all kinds of mod pod things for the vintage home. Mid Century Modern is getting hard to find in this type condition because everyone is decorating their homes in a more modern decor.  I was checking out the facebook page for VinceBravo.com and it's nice to keep abreast of new additions.  I browsed the many listings of furniture, pottery, art, accessories, and one of my faves, lighting.
